High-Retention Scripting

The 100-130 word formula: hooks, emotional pacing, banned AI tell words, and loop closes.

Stage 02 enforces retention mechanics on narration scripts to maximize watch time and replay loops on vertical platforms.

The 100–130 Word Formula

At standard 1.15x neural speech speed (2.2–2.4 words per second), a 100–130 word script generates a video between 45 and 58 seconds long. This ensures the short completes within the 60-second platform threshold while maximizing algorithmic completion rate.

For landscape long-form (format: long), scripts target 800 to 3,500 words with multi-chapter narrative pacing.

Hook Archetypes (0–3s)

Every script must open with an immediate high-stakes hook in the first sentence:

  • •
The Bizarre Contradiction: "In 1904, the Olympic marathon was won by a man who was fed rat poison during the race."
  • •
The Direct Mystery: "There is a creature in the deep ocean whose entire head is completely transparent."
  • •
The Betrayal / Rivalry: "He spent twenty years building modern television, only to have his blueprints stolen in a single afternoon."
  • •
The High-Stakes Decision: "In October 1962, one man prevented World War Three by refusing to press a single button."

Banned AI Clichés

shorts verify-script automatically fails any script containing generic AI buzzwords:

Seamless Loop Mechanics

The closing sentence must connect grammatically into the opening line when the video replays, driving automatic 1.5x+ replay retention:

Loop Mechanics
1Closing line: "Which explains why when historians look back at 1904..."
2(Seamless Video Replay)
3Opening line: "...the Olympic marathon was won by a man who drank rat poison."

11Thirty-two runners started in St. Louis under ninety-degree heat. Only fourteen reached the finish line. One competitor hitched a ride in a car for eleven miles and almost claimed the gold medal. Another took a detour into an orchard, ate rotten apples, and took an hour-long nap on the grass.

13Meanwhile, the actual winner, Thomas Hicks, was given raw eggs and strychnine just to keep his legs moving. When he crossed the finish line, he was hallucinating so severely he thought the race was still hours away.
